Off to see Pioneer Woman and Sugar Cookie Video

Hope everyone is having fun baking this holiday season, I know I am.  And since today is the first night of Hanukah, my first gift is going to be to go see Pioneer Women and get an autographed copy of her cookbook tonight!  How awesome is that.  We are leaving for NYC right after school today and getting on line, fingers crossed that we don't hit too much traffic and that the line isn't too long.  I am bringing my camera, so stay tuned for some photos.

Meanwhile, back to baking.  My house is split down the middle when it comes to flavors, Daddy and Brittney (Dumbblondies) are Chocolate and Mommy and I are Vanilla or Sugar. It doesn't mean that I don't like chocolate but I love love love all things Vanilla and or Sugar.

For the past few months, I have had some inquiries from moms about baking with their kids (guess cause I still am one haha) or how their kids can start a baking blog.  So cool - right?  I am always soooooooo excited to hear from you guys out there, thanks!!!! Anyway, the recipes for Muddie Buddies, Smores or the Chocolate Chip Cookie Brownies are great ones to start with. But when I first started baking, it was sugar cookies that got me hooked.

There are so many good sugar cookie recipes out there (and some not so good ones too) and of course my great-great grandma's sugar cookies are the best tasting but not the best looking for a Christmas Cookie Platter or gift.  So I thought I would share some of my favorites over the next few days.

The best rolled out sugar cookie I ever made was something I found on Youtube--this lady rocks and her recipe is awesome. I made them for my field hockey team last month for our last game and will start my Christmas Cookies this weekend (so stay tuned) Her video, recipes and how to's are under Signature Sweet Shop  and there is also a blog and website you can visit.  They remind me of the cookies you can buy as a gift basket from Cookies By Design but you make them yourself!  Check it out and let me know what you think?

Here are some photos of the cookies I made for the Field Hockey Team!

I took my candy cane cookie cutter and turned them upside down for field hockey sticks...clever right?

And took the tiny circle cutter for the ball.

and these are each of the senior girls numbers...

All wrapped up!

Well, it's time to go get bundled up and head to NY for Pioneer Women--Woo Hoo!

With love and cupcakes,
Cookteen

  1. I just have to say that my family is the exact same way! My dad and older sister are chocolate fanatics, while my mom and I are die hard vanilla lovers. It's pretty hard sometimes when I'm baking to get them to try even the simplest non-chocolate items, oh well=/
    PS- Cute cookies!!
