Rocky Road done Right

Last year my sister's friends bought her a cupcake book for her birthday.  Cupcakes have always been a fav in the Green household.  We will take trips into the city for some Magnolia's or Crumbs on a regular basis.  People know we are cupcake guru's and well that could be the reason we have acquired so many cupcake books throughout the years.  This one was titled Cupcakes Galore and had some very interesting recipes upon first glance:
Well lacrosse season had ended, I know super short season (It ended May 11th FYI), and we had an end of season dinner to wrap it all up.  Of course I wanted to bake something yumms and while I have many go to favorites like Muddy Buddies or S'mores bars, I realized that I haven't made cupcakes in a super long time--hence the Cupcake book shpeele (or however that is spelled...)
I settled on chocolate because well who doesn't swoon over chocolate (besides me--but I am an odd one so that doesn't count)  After a bit of sitting on the kitchen floor debating between recipes, rocky road stole my attention and the mixer came out.  Now it wasn't until all of the ingredients were out that I realized the recipe didn't call for sugar.  Cupcakes WITHOUT sugar seemed like an oxymoron but I decided to roll with it.

Dumbblondie Graduates!

After debating whether to post about Italy (Roma!) or my trip to Wisconsin this past weekend for my sister's graduation, I realized that you all have waited this long to hear about Rome (and other fancy places) that another week won't damage ya! And my sister is just so awesome I mean seriously...she's a college grad! It seems like yesterday we were sitting at the kitchen table and she decided to pour a glass of water on my head because I was being a bum (true stuff--but don't let that fool you, she's the sweet sister)

Anyways, wake up time was at 3:30 am Friday morning! But look on the bright side--we arrived in Wisconsin by 9:30 am, just in time for a tour of the school.
Me and the almost college grad walking around Madison.  There was a reception for journalism school grads, nothing fancy but daddy and I missed most of it because of the tour :/ I am still in airplane clothes fyi!
Post reception, we met some of her friends at the terrace for laughs, lunch and Strongbow (a beer cider my sister happens to be in love with...)

A Sweet and Salty Duo: Chocolate Chip Pretzel Cookie

I leave bright and early tomorrow morning to go to Wisconsin.  Yes, Wisconsin the cheese state.  My sister aka dumbblondie is graduating from college this weekend.  She's an old bum (tehehe just kidding) but seriously, its crazy! When did she become a grown-up? Am I going to become a grown-up that soon!? This scares me.  But anyways, I made her cookies--chocolate chip pretzel cookies to be exact! Sweet and salty--you know I love that combo.  Like the time I made the milk chocolate pretzel tart and then tried to make it all kosher for passover with potato chips.  Sweet and salty there's not too much to say besides I love you! But those tarts, while the look fairly gorgeous and mildly impressive ;) take time and don't do well on airplanes and so the pretzel chocolate chip cookie was erected.

I took my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe (found here), omitted the espresso powder and added a cup of coarsely chopped pretzels.

The cookies are super simply to make but I realized I never posted the step by step pics!! Oh no how silly could I be! So here it goes:

Amo Firenze! (I love Florence!)

Ciao bella gente! (Hi beautiful people)

Anywho, guess what time it is? Time for my fav city!!! Sorry to the other 7 but I think it is because we had the most time here which means lots of shopping and eating and enjoying Firenze.

On the bus ride from Venice to Florence we stopped at an Autogrill for some snackage (aka a pre-lunch)  I wasn't that hungry but I had a bowl of fruit and a nice salad.  It was so very fresh and delicious -I was starting to miss my fruit :( I know, I am the only 17 year old who misses  fruit and veggies in her life...

Brownie Goody Bars & Lacrosse Dinner

Last week I asked my mom to throw a dinner for my Lacrosse team.  We were going to be playing our rival team, OT and I wanted to make sure we had every advantage to win this time!   It took some extra convincing because she just finished helping me with the Bake for the Quake take 2 sale (which was a huge success and raised over $160, see facebook fan page for photos!)

The trade off was, she agreed to make the dinner if I made the desserts...which was not much of a trade off since, as you know, making the desserts is my favorite part.

Best Blueberry Crumb Muffins, Seriously!

As you know, I live in a small town and luckily for me, so many of the moms, dads and kids are really good cooks...and a few years ago many of the families compiled a cookbook as a fundraiser for our local library. Our original cookbook got destroyed when we had a flood in our basement because the water heater broke (ugh, that was a disaster) but recently, one of my moms friends, who had 2 of the cookbooks, gave one to my mom, thanks Marlene! Yay, new cookbook filled with family friendly recipes!
